How "hidden gem" is decided
Every tracked game gets a trust score built from four inputs:
- Signal — our internal score for hook strength, chart velocity and freshness.
- Editorial verdict — pages flagged
buildorwatchafter structural review. - Quality floor — App Store rating ≥ 4.0 (or unknown), to filter blatant clones.
- Audience cap — fewer than 5,000 ratings, so chart-toppers are excluded.
Red flags subtract: any game tagged with gacha mechanics, energy/lives gating, mandatory subscriptions or "requires internet" for a single-player loop is removed before ranking.
Why this works
The big iOS "best of" lists are recycled monthly. They surface games that are already winning. This page does the opposite — it watches the long tail of fresh releases and flags the ones with structural signal before the charts pick them up. If you're a scout, this is the one to bookmark.
